The Federation Council allowed SIM card operators to track children
In Russia, mobile operators may be required to monitor suspicious activity on children's SIM cards. This was announced on February 14 by Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy at the Federation Council, Senator Artem Sheikin.
"Currently, the bill does not explicitly specify detailed mechanisms for monitoring children's rooms, but this logic is generally laid down and can be further developed," he said in an interview with TASS.
According to him, we are talking about the possible assignment to operators and authorized government agencies of additional responsibilities for monitoring children's SIM cards. In the future, it is proposed to introduce a mechanism for automatically informing parents about atypical calls or suspicious transactions from a child's phone number.
Sheikin also clarified that the solutions are currently under technical development.
On February 10, the State Duma (DG) adopted in the first reading a bill that establishes the basics of the operation of the database of mobile device identification numbers (IMEI). According to the initiative, which is part of the second package of measures to combat cyberbullying, each mobile device will receive a unique 15-digit IMEI number upon import into Russia.
