On February 14, the Russian Interior Ministry listed the main ways in which fraudsters infect phones with malware. At the request of TASS, the agency identified eight of the most common scenarios used for remote access to citizens' devices.

One of the schemes involves false calls from mobile operators. The attackers offer to extend the room service agreement and convince the victim to make changes to the banking application. Fraudsters can also pose as bank employees — under the pretext of updating the application or checking cashback, they extort personal data and codes.

Another scenario is calls on behalf of government agencies demanding that applications like Gosuslug or EMIAS be updated. Under the guise of protection against theft of funds, scammers, posing as law enforcement officers, ask to transfer money to a "secure account" or to check the balance.
