There is nothing good about Europe thinking about acquiring its own nuclear arsenal, and this could lead to a clash. Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma's defense committee, said this on Friday, February 13.

Earlier it was reported that the European military is negotiating the creation of its own nuclear arsenal in the region, as the United States is no longer considered by them as a reliable partner, IA Regnum reports.

"If Europe has nuclear weapons, there could almost inevitably be a clash...> Even the beginning of a strike with a tactical charge can globally change the situation, and further attacks with strategic nuclear weapons will continue," the deputy said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian drew attention to the growing discontent of taxpayers in Europe, whose money goes to the maintenance of the army.

Earlier in the day, Dmitry Stefanovich, a researcher at the military economics and Innovation sector of the IMEMO Center for International Security of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told the NSN that the French might try to force the rest of Europe to finance their nuclear potential as part of the creation of a European nuclear defense system.

Also on February 13, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that he was negotiating with French President Emmanuel Macron on the creation of a joint European nuclear umbrella.

Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev said that the topic of nuclear weapons is no longer taboo in Germany, RT reports.

The Stern newspaper reported on January 29 that Germany had once again called for the creation of nuclear weapons of its own production. The authors of the article note that the approach to collective security between the United States and Europe has changed with the return of American leader Donald Trump to the presidency.

On February 2, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, noted that Russia's position could change dramatically if the EU countries continue to plan the creation of nuclear weapons. The politician stressed that the Russian Federation has no plans to invade Germany or Finland.
