During the restoration of a cultural heritage site of federal significance — the chambers of Duma clerk Averky Kirillov on Bersenevskaya Embankment — a treasure trove of more than 20 thousand antique coins was discovered in the center of Moscow. This was announced on Friday, April 13, by the press service of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the capital.

According to the agency, the discovery was made during the opening of the floors of the second floor of a historic estate in the middle of the XVII — early XVIII century (18-20-22, p. 3). Experts found a split black–flattened jug and over 20 thousand coins made of white metal of the XVI-XVII centuries, the Moscow city news agency reports. It is noted that they are well preserved, with a clear stamp, and were mostly located next to the vessel. The jug is planned to be restored, and the treasure is under police protection.

Fragments of polychrome tiles, a bone whistle and a cross were also found during the work. All the artifacts will be transferred for permanent storage to the state part of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation — the Museum of Moscow, where they will undergo scientific numismatic and historical processing, writes Moscow 24.
