The cable between Poland and Sweden has been disconnected in the Baltic Sea
A malfunction of the power cable between Poland and Sweden was recorded in the Baltic Sea. This was announced on February 13 on the website of the Polish Energy Networks (PSE) company.
"The Poland–Sweden connection is temporarily disabled due to a malfunction. The power system is operating stably, all safety criteria are being met," the report says.
According to preliminary data, the failure is not related to external interference. The relevant services are currently preparing for the repair work. It is noted that in recent months this is far from the first case of failure of the underwater infrastructure in the region.
According to Polskie radio, we are talking about the underwater SwePol cable, a direct current line commissioned in 2000. Its total length exceeds 250 km, of which about 240 lies under water. The connection capacity reaches 600 MW.
In December 2024, an emergency shutdown of the EstLink 2 DC cable occurred, after which three more communication lines between Estonia and Finland failed. As part of the investigation into those incidents, the Finnish authorities detained the Eagle S tanker, suspecting the crew of involvement in the damage.
