The gas reserve in the storage facilities of the European Union (EU) countries in mid-February is just over 35%, the representative of the European Commission (EC) Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said on February 13.

"The current level of underground gas reserves (in the EU as a whole) is 35.2%," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced on February 2 that Hungary had filed a lawsuit in the European Court of Justice against the EU ban on the import of Russian energy resources. The lawsuit demands the repeal of the Brussels REPowerEU regulation, which does not allow EU countries to buy Russian oil and gas.

On February 12, the press service of Russian Gazprom reported that the remaining fuel reserves in the Baltic States' only gas storage facility are less than 25%. The company stated that this could create serious problems in the region and Finland. The filling level in underground gas storage facilities in Germany and France dropped below 50%, according to a report dated February 11.

On January 26, the EU Council approved a complete ban on the supply of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) from 2027. By March 1, 2026, European countries are recommended to prepare plans to diversify gas supplies and identify "potential problems" when replacing gas from the Russian Federation.
