With moderate consumption, pancakes can be considered a source of beneficial trace elements, which can also have a positive effect not only on health, but also on mood. This was announced to Izvestia on February 14 by Acting Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the State University of Education, biologist Irina Lyalina.
"Pancakes contain carbohydrates, the main source of energy, because they are made from flour. Whole grain, rice, chickpea, and buckwheat flour are ideal for "healthy" pancakes. The use of these types of flour provides long-lasting saturation, as well as useful fiber. Adding milk and eggs enriches pancakes with protein, which is important for muscles and ligaments. Egg white is easily absorbed by the body. Thus, pancakes can be considered a source of useful macronutrients with moderate consumption," she said.
The specialist clarified that hot food stimulates digestive processes. According to her, heat improves blood circulation in the stomach and can promote the active work of enzymes. Therefore, eating hot pancakes can slightly improve digestion compared to cold ones.
In addition, Lyalina stressed that pancakes can have a positive effect on mood. She noted that delicious food triggers the release of endorphins, the so—called hormones of happiness. Carbohydrates, in turn, contribute to the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for well—being.
"Thus, when properly prepared (using milk and eggs), pancakes are not only delicious, but also a relatively healthy dish with a good balance of carbohydrates and proteins. The main thing is not to abuse it and take into account individual tolerance," concluded Lyalina.
On February 13, Anna Shafer, a nutritionist at the K+31 clinic on Lobachevsky Street, spoke about ways to eat pancakes that are safe for the figure. She called moderation the main rule. The specialist recommended limiting yourself to two or three pancakes at a time. In addition, Shafer advised experimenting with recipes and replacing some of the flour with whole grain or oatmeal. She also recommended paying attention to the overall balance of the day.
