Last year, Russian banks protected their customers from fraud by 13.9 trillion rubles, which is almost twice as much as in 2024. This was reported on February 13 in the materials of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, published on the regulator's website.

It is noted that operations to save funds on accounts and block them were carried out using anti-fraud systems.

"We have prevented <...> almost twice as many fraudulent transactions as a year earlier — 134.2 million against 72.2 million in 2024. Thus, they (Russian banks. — Ed.) managed to save 13.9 trillion rubles from embezzlement of their clients," the Central Bank noted.

Experts also helped block 69.1 thousand phone numbers of intruders and 38.4 thousand fraud sites and pages on social networks.

Earlier that day, Mikhail Gordienko, Professor of the Department of Finance for Sustainable Development at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, warned: when money unexpectedly arrives on your card, do not rush to rejoice at the additional income — this may be a signal of fraud. According to the expert, such transfers may be part of a money laundering scheme. Fraudsters, using social engineering methods or direct hacking, steal funds from other people's accounts and transfer them to ordinary citizens' cards.
