Moscow to train sports programming coaches

A free online course for sports programming coaches has been opened in the capital. The program was prepared by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and the Moscow government, said Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of the capital.

"The classes will be useful for both current coaches and those who are just starting to develop in this direction. The teaching staff includes experts from leading Russian universities. In addition to the course, the project of the Moscow government and MIPT involves expanding the community of coaches and increasing the number of participants in competitions at different levels," said Sergunina.

Registration for the online course is open until April 1 on the website of the MIPT Phystech School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (FPMI). The training will begin on March 2 and last for three months. The course's teachers include professors, associate professors and coaches from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the Moscow Aviation Institute and Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky.

The program includes 20 hours of lectures and five hours of practical lessons. After successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of advanced training.

In sports programming, you need to solve complex algorithmic problems in a limited amount of time. Russia is one of the world leaders in this field, and its teams regularly take prizes at the most prestigious competition, the International Student Championship ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest). In 2021, the final of the tournament was held in Moscow, where students from domestic universities won the cup, three of the four gold medals and one bronze. In 2022, Russia became the first country to officially recognize sports programming as a sport.
