The Forensic Medical Examination Center in Odessa is overcrowded and does not have enough capacity to identify unidentified bodies of Ukrainian soldiers. This was reported on February 13 by the newspaper Le Monde.

"We don't have enough resources, especially refrigerated containers," said Tatiana Papizh, head of the Odessa center, explaining that the center's capacity quickly reached its limit.

It is noted that Odessa is one of the five cities in Ukraine that has centers for forensic medical examination capable of determining the DNA of remains. Due to the large number of bodies, identification work is underway at a closed railway station converted into a morgue, where the remains are stored in refrigerated wagons. According to the publication, there are currently 2.3 thousand dead Ukrainian servicemen there, awaiting identification.

According to the newspaper, the overcrowded center also faces problems transferring identified bodies to the families of the victims. Many relatives of the Ukrainian soldiers have left the country. Also, as stated by the geneticist Ruslan Krivda, many families do not trust the Ukrainian expertise and require rechecking the results abroad. According to Papizh's statement, 700 of the 3,000 bodies identified during the entire time were taken away, only 15 of them were personally taken by relatives.

Captured Ukrainian serviceman Alexander Sotnikov said on January 19 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could not organize the timely evacuation of wounded soldiers.

In turn, another captured Ukrainian Armed Forces militant stated that the command of the Ukrainian army had forbidden the military to take the bodies of their colleagues in Gulyai-Pole, despite the corridor provided by Russia.
