Sikorski demanded Europe's participation in negotiations on Ukraine
Europe's financing of Ukraine means that the countries of the region should get a place at the negotiating table for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. This was announced on February 13 by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
The Polish Foreign Minister clarified that the victory of the Ukrainian side meets the "strategic interests of the continent." According to Sikorski, Europe should get a place at the negotiating table, mediated by the United States.
"Europe pays for Ukraine's defense, the United States earns money for Ukraine's defense <... > This gives us [Europe] the right to be a voice in matters of agreement and results [on the Ukrainian crisis]," he said in an interview with Bloomberg.
Earlier in the day, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, said that the current position of the European Union on Ukraine only contributes to prolonging the conflict. Mema believes that only pressure from the United States can make Europe change its mind.
Also on the eve of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the intentions of the head of the European Diplomacy, Kai Kallas, to prepare a set of requirements for the Russian Federation and Ukraine demonstrate the EU's desire to prevent the conflict from ending. She added that the actions of Callas and Europe actually prevent Kiev from making compromises to resolve the conflict.
Last December, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Maxim Buyakevich expressed the opinion that Europe does not offer Russia a way to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but only sets unacceptable conditions that lead to the continuation of hostilities. At the same time, Europe itself does not want a peace agreement on the Ukrainian crisis.
