There have been 194 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 194 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 21 people were killed and 238 injured. 17 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 13 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
14 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 21 road users needed medical attention. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
As a result of 72 accidents, 35 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 37 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, 68 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 11 underage pedestrians, six of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas. Over the past day, 20 accidents involving minors have been registered, in which 21 young road users, including 10 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.
On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of settlements and cities, especially when turning into the surrounding area, driving in a residential area, near shops, as well as parking areas of shopping malls. When approaching such places, it is recommended to reduce the speed of movement to the minimum in advance in order to have time to stop and allow young pedestrians who are often in them with their parents to pass.
Motorists should take special care when maneuvering or driving through courtyards and adjacent territories, intersections and pedestrian crossings, the department said. When stopping in front of an adjustable pedestrian crosswalk, you should not rush to start moving even when the traffic light is clear. First, it's important to make sure that the crossing is completely free of foot traffic.
"We also remind parents of underage pedestrians of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. At the same time, be sure to use retroreflective elements on their clothes to improve visibility to drivers on the road in the evening. Remember that even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In winter, you should be extremely careful when driving a vehicle, avoid sudden rash maneuvers and realignments on a road slippery with snow or ice, observe the interval and distance, choose the speed taking into account the actual weather conditions, the Traffic Police also reminded.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has prepared a draft order, which defines a list of indicators, criteria and frequency of evaluation of the effectiveness of driving schools in Russia. As clarified on February 4, the list of assessment criteria includes, among other things, the results of exams, the proportion of graduates from the total number in a particular driving school who successfully passed theory and practice on the first attempt, and the proportion of theoretical and practical exams not passed by graduates.
