The United States has made it clear to the Ukrainian leadership that it will not provide any security guarantees until Kiev and Moscow reach a common agreement to end the conflict. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on February 13, citing sources.

"He (US President Donald Trump. — Ed.) wants to settle and consolidate a lot of issues before signing an agreement on security guarantees. He doesn't just want to sign it, if it prevents further peace talks, then what's the point?" a senior official from the US administration told the publication.

The source also stressed that Trump does not use security guarantees as a lever of pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Newspaper said.Ru». He added that the key obstacle to a peace agreement is the territorial issue, but noted the progress of negotiations on this topic.
