On the eve of Valentine's Day, the activity of scammers is traditionally growing. The hype around gifts, flowers, and romantic leisure creates a fertile ground for various deception schemes. On February 13, Izvestia was informed about this by a data analyst at the .RU/ Domain Coordination Center.Russian Federation Evgeny Pankov.

"This year, we should expect further development of popular deception scenarios. First of all, fake discounts and promotions in online stores and marketplaces, fictitious invitations to movies, theaters and restaurants, as well as schemes with courier deliveries of flowers or gifts. Holiday discounts and promotions remain one of the most widespread schemes. Scammers create phishing websites of popular online stores and marketplaces that offer favorable prices for flowers, chocolate, perfumes and other gifts. After making an "order," the money goes to the scammers," he said.

A scheme for delivering flowers or gifts is also developing. Under the guise of couriers, the attackers call the victims and ask them to provide an SMS code, ostensibly to confirm the order. In fact, these are password change confirmation codes for a banking application or a Public Services portal. Transmitting them gives access to the user's account.

"The Fake date scheme also remains relevant, and on the eve of such a romantic holiday, scammers will not miss the opportunity to use it. Attackers create fake profiles on social networks or on dating sites, gain trust and then offer to go to the cinema, theater or concert. A link is sent to purchase tickets – the site turns out to be phishing, and after payment, the user loses money," the expert said.

In addition, during the pre-holiday period, we should expect the activation of various "sweepstakes" in messengers. Scammers create fake channels of well-known brands, where they publish information about the drawing of a dinner for two or concert tickets. Then the user is informed about the "win", and in order to receive the prize, they are asked to log in or provide a confirmation code, after which they lose access to their account.

On February 11, Russians were warned about a scheme to steal Telegram accounts through web applications. It was noted that the scheme is implemented through group chats with a large number of unfamiliar participants. One of the users posts a fake message about the alleged loss of access by the administrator and suggests clicking on the link to a new chat.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
