The endocrinologist talked about the benefits of kiwi peel for the intestines
It is useful to eat kiwi with the peel, since the fruit can have a beneficial effect on the human intestines. This was announced on February 13 by Vladimir Mayorov, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Semeynaya clinic network.
According to the expert, kiwi peel contains a lot of fiber and antioxidants, which makes the product beneficial for the intestines. However, as the doctor emphasized, there are nuances in using kiwifruit with a peel. For example, a fruit must be ripe, and it must also be washed properly, since the fleecy surface of the peel is a breeding ground for bacteria.
According to the expert, kiwifruit should be rinsed under running water for 20-30 seconds, then use a vegetable or fruit brush for cleaning, as this is the best way to remove dirt from the fleecy peel.
"Life hack: soak the fruits in a soda solution (table, baking soda, which is used in everyday life, for example: for baking. One teaspoon of baking soda per glass of water for 10 minutes, then rub with a brush under running water. Baking soda removes not only dirt, but also wax and chemical residues. After such a bath, kiwi can be eaten right in the "uniform," the expert noted.
As Mayorov emphasized, kiwi peel may be contraindicated for people with allergies, as well as for those who have dental problems or gastrointestinal diseases. In such cases, it is better to peel the fruit.
In addition to kiwi, the doctor recommended eating other fruits and vegetables with the peel because of their beneficial properties. For example, the peel of apples contains quercetin (an anti—inflammatory agent) and pectin, and the peel of oranges contains a lot of vitamin C. The peel of carrots, eggplants and other foods that support health and strengthen blood vessels is also useful.
On February 12, nutritionist Sofia Kovanova warned that the peel of apples is useful because of the high fiber content, but in some cases, eating an unpeeled apple can harm your health. According to her, it is better for people with sensitive intestines to peel, and in this case it is recommended to bake apples. Among the possible disadvantages, she also mentioned the poor quality of the fruit and the method of its pretreatment.
