Scientists have reported the appearance of a huge "smiley face" in the Sun

Huge active areas and prominences have formed on the Sun, which outwardly turn the star into a smiley face. This was announced on February 13 by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).

"A huge smiley face measuring 1.5 million km now represents the Sun. The eyes of the star are two large active regions (each about 10 times the size of the Earth), and the smile is formed by a giant prominence about half a million kilometers in size," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.
