Helsingin Sanomat reported the largest glaciation in the Gulf of Finland in 10 years
The Gulf of Finland is at risk of experiencing the largest icing in the last ten years. This was reported by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
The last time such an accumulation of ice blocks was observed was in the winter of 2011, when the entire northern part of the Baltic Sea was completely covered with ice.
The publication noted that the icy winter is moving fast. Glaciologist of the Finnish Meteorological Institute Alexi Arola pointed out that significantly more ice was recorded in the Gulf of Finland than the average for the winters of the last 20 years.
Now the ice crust has spread along the Finnish coast in the far West, reaching the Archipelagic Sea.
The Associated Press reported on January 30 that the number of victims of a powerful snow storm that hit the United States reached 85 people. According to the agency, about half of the deaths were recorded in Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana, where tens of thousands of homes were left without electricity due to icing and low temperatures.
