The Russian ambassador warned of retaliatory measures due to the militarization of Japan

The militarization of Japan will entail retaliatory measures from the Russian Federation and other countries in the region. This was announced on February 13 by Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Nikolai Nozdryov.

"The Administration of [the Prime Minister of Japan] Sanae Takaichi relies on the development of strike capabilities, primarily missile weapons and hypersonic systems. In any case, the actions taken by the Japanese authorities worsen the security situation in Northeast Asia and will entail retaliatory military-technical measures not only from Russia, but also from other countries in the region," the diplomat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The diplomat noted that the policy of increasing costs related to armaments has been accelerating recently. He also noted that Russia's position on the militarization of Japan is unequivocally negative. At the same time, despite public and direct reports about Russia's attitude to the situation, Japan continues to accelerate military construction.

But first, Tokyo must change its approach to relations with Moscow.

Last November, Takaichi said that in the current circumstances, Tokyo should consider the possibility of deploying US nuclear weapons on its territory. She stressed that since Tokyo's security is based on an alliance with Washington, the previous restrictions need to be reviewed.
