The chief lawyer of Goldman Sachs resigned because of the connection with Epstein
Katie Ruemmler, the general counsel of Goldman Sachs Bank, decided to resign after the publication by the US Department of Justice of materials that show her connections with financier Jeffrey Epstein, accused of trafficking minors and sexual crimes. This was reported on February 13 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"I have come to the conclusion that the media attention to me, related to my previous work as a criminal defense lawyer, is starting to distract me," Ruemmler said.
The publication reports that the published documents contain evidence of extensive correspondence between the lawyer and Epstein between 2014 and 2019, long after he pleaded guilty to charges of inciting a minor to prostitution.
The newspaper also writes that Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon has supported Ruemmler since her close relationship with Epstein became known in 2023.
Rummler's departure from Goldman Sachs is one of the most high–profile corporate collapses related to the massive revelations of Epstein's emails, the newspaper says.
Earlier on February 11, it became known that former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland, who also previously served as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, was stripped of diplomatic immunity. This was done at the request of Oslo, following the launch of an investigation into allegations of aggravated corruption in connection with Jagland's past ties with Epstein.
