On February 13, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov recommended that Russians refrain from visiting Canada, as well as contact the embassy or consulates for protection in case of danger.

"We recommend that our fellow citizens, based on the combination of negative factors, not visit Canada yet," he told RIA Novosti.

The diplomat stressed that the diplomatic mission would do everything possible to protect Russian citizens and urged Russians in Canada to always remain vigilant.
