- The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned against sending "shaded" photos of bank cards
Sending snapshots of bank cards with "shaded" personal data is not safe — fraudsters can still get access to it. This was announced on February 13 in the Department for the Organization of the Fight against the Illegal use of information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"Many people believe that if you "paint over" the data on the photo with a marker in the phone's editor, the information will be securely hidden. In practice, sometimes data can still be recovered," the service's Telegram channel says.
The Interior Ministry reported that not all graphic tools can achieve 100% opacity, so they can be highlighted. In addition, blur tools also do not remove information from images, but change it using certain algorithms, so in some cases it becomes possible to decode it.
"Some applications and files may save service information or intermediate versions of the image. In some cases, this allows you to extract the source data," the agency noted.
On January 29, the Interior Ministry reminded that if personal data is leaked as a result of hacking, passwords should be changed promptly, cards should be blocked and the police should be contacted. In addition, when hacking digital services, it is important to warn your loved ones and relatives about what happened.
