German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's revenge on French leader Emmanuel Macron over the failure of a plan to use frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine could threaten the European Union (EU) with a split. This was reported on February 12 by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
It is clarified that Merz, after the failure of the plan to confiscate Russian assets, harbored a grudge against the French president.
"Merz also accuses [European Council President Antonio] Costa and Macron are accused of setting a trap for him regarding €90 billion for Kiev," the publication says.
