Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, said on February 13 that payments to spouses who have been married for more than 50 years should be fixed at the federal level.

Nilov recalled that earlier, in February last year, a bill was submitted to the State Duma providing for payments for couples who have been married for 30, 40, 50 or more years. In particular, it was supposed to introduce payments in the amount of 30 thousand rubles for the 30th anniversary of marriage, 40 thousand rubles for the 40th anniversary and 50 thousand rubles for the 50th anniversary. However, this project was rejected.

"The project is currently being finalized. And taking into account regional practices, taking into account the necessary additional costs of the federal budget, we need to start acting progressively and first identify those families who have been married for a long time. Not in the way we originally proposed, but to start with 50 years of marriage and more," explained Nilov.

In addition, Nilov stressed the importance of maintaining existing regional payments, such as in Moscow, the Moscow Region and St. Petersburg. He noted that federal support for long-term marriage should be complementary to these regional measures.
