Macron urged the EU to prepare to discuss security architecture with Russia
The member states of the European Union (EU) need to prepare for a dialogue with Russia on the architecture of their own security and well-being. This was announced on February 12 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"We, the Europeans, also have issues to discuss, so we must be at the negotiating table on issues of prosperity, the future of Europe and its security architecture," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The French leader added that it is important for EU leaders to prepare their theses at the highest level right now for potential discussion with Moscow.
On January 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that EU heads of state should offer specific contacts for dialogue, and not limit themselves to public statements. He once again stressed that Russia is ready for negotiations if they are open and serious.
Alexey Chepa, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, on February 2, commenting on Macron's next call to start a dialogue with Moscow, said that potential contacts would depend on what tasks the Europeans set for themselves.
