Global sugar exchange prices have fallen to their lowest level since October 2020
Global sugar exchange prices have updated a multi-year low, falling to the level of October 2020. This is evidenced on February 12 by trading data on the ICE Futures platform.
The price of the March sugar futures decreased by 1.49% to 13.91 cents per pound.
The cost of sugar has been decreasing for the third month in a row. Since the beginning of February, the drop has been about 2.5%.
Bloomberg reported on February 9 that electricity prices in Northern Europe rose to the highest level since the beginning of the energy crisis in late 2022 amid rising demand due to the severe cold snap and the inability to compensate for supplies with wind power. Prices on the Nord Pool exchange increased by 6.8%, to €158.53 per megawatt hour, despite the fact that the level of electricity generated by wind is about 30% of the normal level.
