- A court has sentenced a pensioner to 16 years for setting fire to a police car in Moscow.
The Second Western District Military Court sentenced pensioner Ivan Zelinsky (listed as a terrorist in the Russian Federation) to 16 years in prison in the case of setting fire to a police car at the Interior Ministry department in Moscow in 2024. This was reported on February 12 in the press service of the department.
"The court has sentenced Zelinsky to 16 years in prison, of which he will spend the first three years in prison, and the remaining term in a high—security colony," TASS quotes the text of the verdict.
It is noted that the pensioner was found guilty under paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). According to the investigation, the defendant threw a bottle of flammable liquid into the official car on the instructions of fraudsters from Ukraine.
Zelinsky himself had previously acknowledged the factual circumstances of the case, but insisted that his actions should be qualified as hooliganism (Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), adds "Газета.Ru ".
Earlier that day, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Vitaliy Gaivoronsky, a resident of Nalchik, who was preparing a terrorist attack at the railway station, to 20 years in prison. A criminal case has been opened against the man under articles on high treason, preparation for a terrorist act, illegal storage and manufacture of explosives.
