Russian and Russian-language literature may be banned in Ukraine. This was announced on February 12 by the country's Minister of Culture, Tatiana Berezhnaya.

According to her, after the relevant petition has gained the necessary number of votes, the State Committee for Television and Radio is preparing a draft resolution with specific prohibition mechanisms.

"At the moment, Goskomteleradio is working on a resolution to lay down a specific mechanism," the Ukrainian edition quotes Berezhnaya as saying "Страна.иа ".

According to her, the new resolution will include both Russian and Russian-language books. The Government has stepped up work on legal mechanisms with a clear procedure.

Last December, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recommended that the government develop draft laws aimed at further restricting the use of the Russian language in all spheres of life. The deputies also proposed making the Ukrainian language mandatory for communication in families and raising children.

In November 2025, it became known that Russian was increasingly being spoken in schools in Kiev, despite the policy of local authorities. According to the results of the study, almost a quarter (24%) of teachers communicate in Russian during lessons, and another 40% during recess.
