The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has approved the life sentence of criminal boss Oleg Medvedev, nicknamed Shishkan, in the case of murders and occupation of the highest position in the criminal hierarchy. This was reported on February 12 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

It is noted that the defense requested that the case be sent for a new hearing.

The members of the organized criminal group, headed by Shishkan, are charged with a number of serious and especially serious crimes, including murder, extortion, injury to health, illegal possession of firearms and other acts.

On May 16, 2024, the jury found the members of the Medvedev gang guilty, and the authority and 17 of his accomplices were in the dock. Their case was investigated by the central office of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia. At the same time, Shishkan was charged with occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy.

The Investigative Committee also said that Medvedev's gang extorted funds from entrepreneurs near Moscow to finance their activities; they killed people to get rid of competition in the mining industry. Those who did not want to comply with the criminal demands of Shishkan and his accomplices suffered harm to their health of varying severity or their property was burned.

In June 2024, Medvedev was sentenced to life imprisonment in a high-security penal colony. The court issued a similar decision against three of his accomplices — Yuri Ofitserov, Eduard Kharkov and Dmitry Khlamkin. The remaining 11 defendants received 11 to 24 years in prison to serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony, and three more were sentenced to probation.
