The Islamic Republic of Iran has taken advantage of the protracted negotiations with the United States to strengthen its Natanz nuclear facility against any potential attacks. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post (JP) newspaper, citing data from the Institute of Science and International Security (ISIS).

According to ISIS, the new facility is a large tunnel complex on Mount Kolang Gazla, also known as Mount Kirk, near a number of nuclear facilities in Natanz, which were the center of the Republic's nuclear program before the Israeli-Iranian escalation in June 2025. The facility has not yet been put into operation, but it can be used at any time.

The author of the article adds that the new facility is located at a depth of 1.6 thousand meters, while the nuclear facility at Fordo, which the United States launched a missile attack on, is located at a depth of about 960 m. ISIS believes that such a location potentially provides protection from any possible attack from the United States or Israel.

Israel intends to tighten the terms of the deal with Tehran so that it is not limited only to the nuclear program.

Negotiations between Iran and the United States on the nuclear program ended on February 6. During the dialogue, the parties were able to agree on the continuation of the diplomatic process. This was the first meeting of the parties after a long break in the dialogue, which was interrupted in the summer of 2025 due to the transition of the Iranian-Israeli confrontation into an open phase.

Iran has previously indicated its readiness to make a deal with the United States by suspending or completely shutting down its nuclear program. It was noted that Tehran would prefer the proposal to create a regional consortium for the production of nuclear energy put forward by the United States last year.
