Sikharulidze expressed confidence in Humennik's success in the free skate
Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik will improve his position in the free skate at the Olympic Games in Italy (OI-2026). This was stated on February 12 by Anton Sikharulidze, President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, in an interview with TASS.
"Fortunately, I didn't have to change the music in the free program. Peter's technique is very strong, and the set of elements is truly world—class. I'm sure he can handle it. And I would like our people to support him, watch his rental and help him with their thoughts," he said.
Sikharulidze noted that he is almost sure that after the free program, the distribution of places will change, and Peter will rise in the table.
"I'm pretty sure that after the free program, the distribution of places will change, and Petya will rise in the table. There is no need to panic. We saw that he is a real fighter. We will continue to support him," he said.
At the moment, Humennik is in 12th place after the short program, having scored 86.72 points and performing under the first starting number. The skater originally planned to perform a short program to the music of the film "The Perfumer", but was forced to change the composition due to copyright issues.
On February 11, figure skating coach Tatiana Tarasova pointed out that Humennik was exhausted by the circumstances before the Olympics. The coach stressed that the technical side of the program was not a problem, since Humennik had been skating without mistakes for a long time, but problems arose due to the need to adapt to a new performance for the performance.
