The auto expert told about the main mistakes when starting the battery in the cold
In winter, the battery operates under high load conditions, and it is in the cold that owners most often make mistakes that shorten its service life. Konstantin Ershov, an auto expert and technical specialist at ROSSKO, told about this on Thursday, February 12.
He warned that in the cold it is impossible to repeatedly "turn" the starter with short pauses. He explained that at low temperatures, the battery capacity drops, and thick oil makes it difficult to start. If the engine does not catch on the first or second attempt, the excessive load quickly drains the battery and can lead to its deep discharge, Yershov explained.
According to the auto expert, the second mistake is to leave the battery in a discharged state in the cold, since a discharged battery freezes much faster than a fully charged one, which can cause damage to the plates and loss of capacity.
He added that you should not "light up" the car without following the connection rules.
"Ignoring the terminal condition is a separate risk. Oxidation of the contacts increases the resistance, makes it more difficult to start, and puts additional strain on the battery. This is especially critical in the cold," Yershov emphasized in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
In addition, the auto expert added that it is not recommended to operate the car only on short trips with active use of autorun and heating, as the generator does not have time to restore the charge, and the battery is gradually losing its life.
Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, advised drivers on February 11 to avoid speeding through major road surface defects when driving on bad roads and to remember an important rule: sudden braking immediately in front of an obstacle is also dangerous. 360.ru .
On the same day, Maxim Rakitin, an auto expert and editor-in-chief of the online automotive publication Quto, said that when preparing a car for spring, you should wash the car of reagents and check the condition of the bottom.
Alexander Kornev, head of the department for work with importers at Gazprombank Avtolizing, told Izvestia on February 7 that parking in courtyards remains one of the riskiest ways to store a car, since it is there that cars are most often damaged or become the object of intruders' interest.
In turn, Vice-president of the National Automobile Union Yang Haitseer said on February 5 that the blocking of security systems in the cold in Chinese premium cars is due to the fact that they are packed with electronics, NSN reports.
