The European Union (EU) should cancel the allocation of €10 billion to the Hungarian authorities. This was stated on February 12 by Tamara Chapeta, General Counsel of the Supreme Court of the European Union, as quoted by Bloomberg.

"The Supreme Court of the European Union must invalidate the decision of the executive branch of the bloc to allocate more than €10 billion for judicial reforms in Hungary," the article says.

According to Chapeta, the European Commission (EC) made a mistake by releasing €10.2 billion from EU funds after the EC found that Hungary had fulfilled the conditions for strengthening the independence of the judicial system.

"The Commission cannot allocate EU funds to a member state until the necessary legislative reforms come into force and begin to be effectively applied," the publication quotes Chapeta as saying.

It is noted that the statement may further aggravate relations between Budapest and the EU's highest court in Luxembourg ahead of the crucial parliamentary elections in Hungary on April 12.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on February 6 that the EU was trying to take money away from Hungarian families in order to transfer funds to Ukraine. He added that the European Union considers it "heresy" to put family first. In Hungary, such ideas are called a manifestation of common sense, the politician noted.
