Belgian police have raided the buildings of the European Commission (EC) in Brussels as part of an investigation into possible violations in the sale of European Union (EU) real estate. This was reported on February 12 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.

"Searches took place on Thursday morning in various premises of the European Commission in Brussels, including the budget Department. According to sources, the investigation concerns the sale of real estate in the EU," the article says.

According to the newspaper, we are talking about a 2024 deal in which 23 buildings were acquired by the Belgian Public Investment Fund (SFPIM) for € 900 million.

The European Commission assured that the sale was carried out according to established procedures, and expressed confidence in the legality of the transaction. Brussels promised "full cooperation with the prosecutor's office and the Belgian authorities."

On February 3, the French prosecutor's office conducted searches in the offices of the social network X (former. Twitter), which is owned by American entrepreneur Elon Musk. The searches were conducted jointly with the staff of the National Cyber Division and Interpol.
