Zakharova pointed to Kiev's attempt to disrupt the negotiations with an assassination attempt on Alekseev.

The assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev showed Kiev's intention to disrupt the negotiation process on a settlement in Ukraine. This was announced on February 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"This terrorist attack once again confirmed the targeting of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Putin's regime. Zelensky is constantly provoking in order to disrupt the negotiation process. <...> Apparently, Kiev is ready to do literally anything to try to prevent the achievement of a just peace," Zakharova said.

She noted that on the eve Zelensky announced in a televised address the preparation of "new similar operations on the territory of Ukraine."

On February 11, an investigator in the court of Viktor Vasin, accused of the attempted murder of Alekseev, announced the possible involvement of the Ukrainian special services in the terrorist attack and said that the investigation was continuing to look for other participants.

Subsequently, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was informed that an article on encroachment on the life of a military man had been added to the case.

Later, on February 9, the participants in the assassination Korba and Vasin Sr. pleaded guilty to the crime. The next day, it became known about the detention of the third person involved, Pavel Vasin. As noted in the FSB of the Russian Federation, Korba was trained at a shooting range in Kiev and was recruited by the SBU with the assistance of Poland.
