185 road accidents have occurred in Russia over the past day.
Over the past day, 185 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 221 injured. 17 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 12 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Seven accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but ten road users, including three children, needed medical attention. Four bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. As a result of 73 accidents involving pedestrians, 46 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 27 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 71 more were injured in various degrees of severity.
Among the injured were 14 child pedestrians, half of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of drivers or their own negligence. Over the past day, 20 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 23 young road users, including eight passengers, were injured. A two-year-old boy, a passenger in a passenger car, was killed.
In the Moscow region, on the M-10 Rossiya federal highway, a 23-year-old motorist, whose driving experience is less than a year, applied emergency braking, lost control in a snowfall and collided with a truck moving in the same direction. As a result of the accident, the son of the driver of the car, born in 2023, was killed, who was transported in her back seat in a child restraint device. Another passenger in the passenger car was hospitalized with injuries.
In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions. So, in the Murmansk region, since yesterday, due to snow, blizzard, gusty winds and the resulting visibility restrictions, traffic has temporarily stopped on two highways of regional significance: Kola - Serebryanskie HPPS from 32 km to 136 km and the Entrance to the village of Teriberka from 0 km to 39 km.
"In winter, you should be extremely careful when driving a car. It is necessary to refrain from sudden rash maneuvers and realignments, it is necessary to observe the interval and distance between vehicles, as well as choose the speed limit taking into account the weather conditions," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, Head of the Department of Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
When planning trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures or restrictions. In case of a negative forecast, the agency advises to refrain from traveling long distances until weather conditions and traffic conditions improve, and in urban conditions, to use public transport services.
Yesterday it became known that in the Kandalaksha district of the Murmansk region, as a result of a head-on collision of cars, one person was killed and three injured.
