A court in Armenia has placed Mkrtich Proshyan, head of the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Church, under house arrest. His lawyer Ara Zohrabyan announced this on February 12.

Earlier, during a court hearing on January 26, Mkrtich's arrest was extended for a month. It is noted that he is charged under the article on obstruction of the exercise of the right to vote using his official position.

The Investigative Committee of the country reported that the actions were being carried out as part of a criminal case under the article on obstruction of an assembly or coercion to participate in it.
