A record number of companies have gone bankrupt in Finland since 1997
In Finland, a record number of companies went bankrupt in January since 1997. This was announced on February 12 by the statistical office of the country.
"According to Statistics Finland, 385 bankruptcy cases were initiated in January 2026 <...> The last time such a number of bankruptcies per month was recorded was in October 1997," the agency's website says.
It is noted that in January last year, the number of bankruptcy cases was also close to a record high and amounted to 381 applications.
Sergei Zainullin, an associate professor at the RUDN University Faculty of Economics, said in December last year that the crisis in Finland, provoked by the severance of ties with Russia, could turn into a full-fledged economic disaster. He noted that Finland directs a significant part of its resources not to help businesses and citizens, but to "military adventures": for example, next year Helsinki will allocate €6.3 billion for defense.
