Russians have become more likely to insure smartphones

The volume of mobile phone insurance in units in the second half of 2025 increased by 75% compared to the first half of the year, Megafon estimated. Customers are most active in insuring smartphones from Samsung, Realme and Huawei brands.

Residents of Moscow, Krasnodar Krai, and Bashkiria are more likely to apply for mobile equipment insurance. The top 10 regions in terms of demand also included Yugra, the Sverdlovsk Region, St. Petersburg, the Saratov and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Tatarstan and the Orenburg Region. Smartphones account for 96% of all issued policies. Russians also insure headphones, smart watches, and portable speakers. The most unusual insurance item last year turned out to be an Apple stylus for a graphics tablet, Megafon reported.

The most expensive insured smartphone in the operator's retail network in 2025 was the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, with a price of 239,000 rubles. It is followed by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 for 220 thousand rubles and the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max for 215 thousand rubles.

The maximum increase in demand for the service was recorded in September — this month the volume of issued policies was 2.2 times higher than the annual average. Experts attribute this to the purchase of smartphones for children by the beginning of the school year, when insurance becomes part of the standard kit along with a case or an additional charger. The demand for screen protection is also growing rapidly: it has increased fivefold in a year.

"The growing interest in device protection shows that users have become more aware of gadgets and possible costs if they break down or are lost. At the same time, device insurance is increasingly perceived as a logical continuation of the purchase, rather than as an additional option," said Vadim Zimin, Director of Megafon's Sales Strategy and Development Department.
