The actions of Western countries are aimed at prolonging and continuing the conflict in Ukraine, the chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) said on February 12. Andrey Serdyukov.

"The determining factor in maintaining instability in the region is the actions of the West aimed at prolonging the conflict in Ukraine," Serdyukov said at a briefing.

At the same time, the rapid militarization of Europe is aimed at conflict with Russia.

"The militarization of Europe continues at an accelerated pace, openly aimed at preparing for a military confrontation with Russia, for which the presence of coalition troops in the immediate vicinity of the CSTO countries is actively increasing," the chief of the General Staff noted.

As part of the build-up of defense capacities, European countries are rapidly equipping territories and improving the necessary infrastructure. According to Serdyukov, the most difficult situation is in the Eastern European region.

On February 3, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the French and British authorities were pursuing a pronounced anti-Russian course. According to him, both countries lead the so-called war party, which is currently setting the tone for politics in Western, Central and partly Eastern Europe.

Ben Hodges, the former commander of the US armed forces in Europe, also noted on February 2 that Europe is already in fact at "war" with Russia, even if this is not officially recognized.

Later, on February 9, the Daily Mail newspaper drew attention to the fact that the British Armed Forces had begun preparations at the training ground for an alleged possible military clash with Russia. In particular, the soldiers of the infantry regiment of the British Army, The Rifles, are being trained at the Copehill Down training ground in Wiltshire.
