A new coronal hole formed on the Sun may begin to affect the Earth in three to four days. This was announced on February 12 by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).

"The outlines of a new coronal hole have more or less formed on the Sun, which, however, will be able to begin to affect the Earth only in three or four days," the Telegram channel said.

Experts clarified that at present, the general characteristic of the situation in the Sun is a tendency to decrease activity.

Coronal holes are regions with reduced plasma density and temperature in the solar corona. From them, a stream of accelerated solar wind enters outer space, which, when it reaches the Earth, can cause disturbances of the magnetosphere and weak magnetic storms.

On February 6, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that another powerful explosion had occurred on the far side of the Sun. It was noted that in a few days, with a high probability, only fragments of ejected solar matter can reach the Earth.
