A criminal case was opened in Irkutsk after the collapse of the ceiling covering and electrical wiring in the school lobby. This was reported on February 12 in the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.
"In the evening, after 6 p.m., the ceiling covering and electrical wiring in the foyer of the educational institution collapsed in one of the schools in the district. Fortunately, there were no students in the foyer of the school at the time of the incident," the department said in a message on its Telegram channel.
It is specified that the case was initiated under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Negligence"). The Prosecutor's Office establishes the causes and conditions that led to the collapse, and also conducts supervisory measures to assess the implementation of legislation related to the protection of minors' rights and ensuring the safety of the educational process.
If there are grounds, prosecutorial response measures will be taken. In addition, the prosecutor's office will check the legality of the decisions taken by the investigators in connection with this incident.
On February 5, the Main Directorate (GU) of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region reported that the roof of a Novosibirsk school with an area of about 100 square meters collapsed. It was clarified that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
