In northern Italy, unknown people set fire to the Lecco—Tirano railway line leading to the Olympic venues in Bormio and Livigno. This was reported on February 11 by the Corriere della Sera newspaper, citing the Lombardy police and prosecutor's office.
According to law enforcement agencies, at about 02:00 (local time, 04:00 Moscow time), seven cables of the exchange station with a total area of 64 cm caught fire, and the remains of a flammable bottle were found on the spot.
The police believe that this case is connected with a similar arson of railway tracks in Bologna and Pesaro.
On February 6, US Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had detained a key participant in the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. She clarified that the detainee will be charged with murder, arson and terrorism.
