- Protests and strikes against the policy of militarization of the country took place in Germany.
Hundreds of people took part in protests in Germany, opposing the policy of representatives of the German government aimed at militarization of the country. Izvestia publishes footage of the demonstrations on February 11.
People gathered on the streets by the trade unions Verdi and GEW are demanding that the government raise wages by at least €300 per month, and also urge them to pay extra for overtime hours and operating at unfavorable times.
"[The authorities] are actually promoting the military budget, including through the supply of weapons to Ukraine, for which the workers here must pay. Therefore, it is necessary to fight for a different course, including within the trade unions," said one of the protesters named Philip.
According to him, the participants are in favor of uniting German workers with Russian and Ukrainian employees. The demonstrators, as the man added, show the need to take a course against the "imperialist policy" of NATO.
On the banners that can be seen in the crowd, you can see messages from representatives of tuberculosis dispensaries, theaters, land administrations, law enforcement agencies and universities. The rally even affected kindergartens and schools, many of whose employees took part in the march.
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper reported on the successful German tests of a prototype hypersonic missile. It was emphasized that €23.3 million was attracted to the German-British startup project. The director of the company involved in the development of these weapons called the goal of his corporation's activities to provide Europe with cost-effective, maneuverable hypersonic missiles by 2029.
On November 11, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed to Germany's desire to become the main military force in Europe again. Speaking about the militarization of Germany, he clarified that this country, as the birthplace of Nazism, no longer feels repentance for what it had previously done. Lavrov added that if former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Olaf Scholz still "tried to keep up appearances," Friedrich Merz did not.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who held this post from 1998 to 2005, said on January 23 that his country needed to stop building up weapons. He clarified that security policy should first of all strengthen peace, freedom and cooperation, and not create new images of enemies.
