NATO has attracted tens of thousands of troops for exercises in the Arctic
The leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) plans to deploy tens of thousands of military personnel for exercises as part of Operation Arctic Sentry. This was announced on February 11 by the Secretary General of the military bloc, Mark Rutte.
"We have announced the launch of the Arctic Sentry mission, which will ensure the presence of NATO in the polar latitudes. Tens of thousands of NATO troops and dozens of ships will take part in the exercises as part of this mission," Rutte said.
The operation will be led by the Joint Forces Command in Norfolk (JFC Norfolk). The exercises began in Europe on the same day.
As reported by Reuters on February 11, NATO launched the Arctic Sentry mission to expand its military presence in the Arctic. It will coordinate the military presence of the alliance's forces in the region. In addition, the bloc will conduct military exercises similar to the Danish "Arctic Endurance in Greenland", which should increase the ability of the alliance's military forces to operate in the region in cold conditions.
