Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjorn Jagland, who also previously served as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, has been stripped of his diplomatic immunity. This was reported on February 11 by the French BFM TV channel, citing a statement from the Cabinet of Ministers of the international agency.

The immunity was lifted at the request of Oslo, after an investigation was launched into allegations of aggravated corruption in connection with Jagland's past ties with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the newspaper notes.

Thorbjorn Jagland was Prime Minister of Norway in 1996-1997. Later he was appointed Secretary General of the Council of Europe, a position he held from 2009 to 2019.

On February 6, the Norwegian police began checking former Prime Minister Jagland in the Epstein case. No specific charges have been filed against him yet. The investigation plans to examine his receipt of gifts, as well as compensation for trips and loans related to his previous positions.
