A strong earthquake has occurred in the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk. This was announced on February 11 by a source of Izvestia.
Tremors with an intensity of six points were recorded about 300 km from Magadan.
"The earthquake was located at a depth of 30 km. According to preliminary data, it was not felt in the region," the source said.
The day before, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred in the Krasnodar Territory. The epicenter of the seismic event was located 35 km northwest of Novorossiysk, which has a population of about 241 thousand people. The source of the tremors was at a depth of 10 km. According to the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences", the intensity at the epicenter was six points.
Professor Boris Vakhrushev, Head of the Department of Geography and Geomorphology at Vernadsky Crimean Federal University (KFU), noted that the cause of the earthquake was the discharge of tension that had accumulated during shifts in the Earth's crust.
