Russia has developed an innovative sports equipment based on 3D printing made of aluminum

Russia has started producing sports equipment for professional sports using 3D printing technologies. This was announced by Yulia Romantseva, Head of the 3D Printing and Design Services Department at AI 3D.

According to her, the initiator of the project was Andrey Rucheikov, a member of the presidium of the Moscow Regional Roller Sports Federation, who developed the concept of designing frames for roller sports using artificial intelligence.

"Andrey Rucheikov created the concept of designing frames for roller sports using artificial intelligence. We checked the generative design, made adjustments, tested the model, and printed roller skate frames for speedskating (speed skating) on a 3D printer made of RS-553 aluminum alloy. The choice of alloy is determined by the task of creating the lightest and at the same time durable equipment," said Yulia Romantseva.

Additive technologies have made it possible to produce a frame weighing 209 grams, which is about 20% lighter than products made of a standard high-strength aluminum deformable alloy. As Yulia Romantseva emphasized, inventory made of other materials is even heavier.

"At the same time, the required strength is maintained, because in speedskating competitions, due to high speed, turns and jumps, an athlete weighing 50 kg can exert a load of 250 kg on the frame," Yulia Romantseva noted.

The characteristics of the powder alloy product were tested using a mathematical model in a specialized program, after which the frames were tested at high-level competitions and contributed to achieving high athletic results.

Evgeny Vasiliev, Director of Aluminum Consumption Development at Rusal, emphasized that aluminum means lightness and speed for mechanical engineering and sports. "And Rusal's creation of new alloys and technologies makes it possible to continuously improve this basic property of winged metal," said Evgeny Vasiliev.
