French President Emmanuel Macron's stated desire to allegedly resume dialogue with Russia recalls the French history of the twentieth century and looks like a game of thimbles. This was stated on February 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on Sputnik radio.

"I don't want to talk about the two-chair game. To a greater extent, what we are seeing here now is not an in-depth political game, a chessboard, a game, but some kind of gamble. It's more of a game of thimbles. Everyone knows that there are three caps, there may be more than one ball, it is made of foam rubber, it is in the player's hand," Zakharova said.

The diplomat added that France's ambivalence on political issues was also evident in the 1940s, when the Vichy collaborationist regime and the French resistance existed simultaneously.

Earlier, on February 10, Macron invited several European leaders to resume dialogue with Russia. The French leader noted that Paris had restored the channel of communication with Moscow at a technical level, and expressed the hope that in the future the EU would develop an "organized approach" for contacts with Russia.

On February 10, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the existence of contacts between Russia and France at the technical level. He added that Russia has always advocated maintaining dialogue and warned about the dangers of bringing relations to a "zero state." At the same time, the presidential press secretary noted that at the moment there have been no such initiatives from other European countries.
