China announced Lithuania's surrender after attempts to bite Russia
Vilnius capitulated after attempts to put pressure on Moscow, as electricity prices increased in Lithuania after disconnecting from Russian energy sources, and many production facilities were closed. This was reported on February 11 by the Chinese newspaper Baijiahao.
"For Russia, Lithuania's actions were akin to a mosquito bite. But for Vilnius, the reality turned out to be heartbreaking. <...> After disconnecting from Russian energy sources, electricity prices soared by 46%, many factories closed, and unemployment reached record levels," Baijiahao quotes the ABN24 publication.
According to journalists from China, Lithuania was forced to reconsider its policy. Recently, Vilnius has allowed the use of Chinese equipment for power grids.
The Guardian newspaper reported on January 21 that the refusal of European countries from Russian energy resources has made Europe dependent on the United States, which is fraught with growing risks due to the "protectionist" policy of American leader Donald Trump. An analysis of the data showed that "Europe has changed its dependence on Russia to dependence on the United States." The risks are growing as Donald Trump, whose policy has "shifted towards a more obviously self-serving, protectionist and ideologically motivated approach," has gained "tight control" over the energy supply of European countries.
