On February 10, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced that the helicopter he was in was forced to change its route due to an assassination threat.

According to him, he was afraid that they might open fire on the helicopter.

"I must admit that I was trying to avoid death, which is why I couldn't arrive last night. I couldn't land where I was supposed to," El Tiempo quoted him as saying.

Petro said on January 3 that he was not worried about himself after the US seizure of his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro. According to him, he has devoted ten years to investigating and publicly exposing links between powerful figures and armed drug traffickers.
